Get involved with Mozfest 2016

Mozfest is an event happening in London from 28-30th October. It’s a diverse, highly interactive event with something for everyone, including a science fair of inspiring ideas and projects, and participant led-sessions, including interactive sessions where participants can learn something new or share their knowledge; small group breakout discussions where bright minds debate the most pressing issues facing the Internet today; or design sprints dedicated to hands-on making, hacking and producing a ‘thing’.

You can find out more about Mozfest here: https://mozillafestival.org/

We’ve submitted a proposal for a session focused on interactive/digital storytelling, and the organisers of the Mozfest Youth Zone are still looking for submissions, so we thought some of you might like to submit an idea too, including sessions run by young people and children.

So, do you know or have you a young person who is a topic expert in making stuff from Art to Technology and could they benefit from being invited to be part of MozFest? And how can Mozfest help you, to help them share their passion? There are some bursaries available to enable people to attend.

If you’re interested in submitting an idea, or want to talk an idea for a session through, you can contact Youth Zone organiser Dorine Flies via dorine.flies@mozilla.org.uk

Submissions close at the end of August.

  1. Small world isn't it? I have been organising the volunteers that run the Mozilla Festival for the last four years and I live in Weybridge.
Submissions for sessions are now closed but we still need enthusiastic people to help out. You can find more information on our website here >> https://mozillafestival.org/volunteer

We've found a local volunteer to run a Code Club, and we're just waiting for their DBS check to come through. Now we need to arrange the sessions, which will probably be late-afternoon drop-in sessions for children over the summer holidays. Image provided by Stuart Miles We are also looking at running lunchtime learning sessions, where our online resource suppliers could come in a talk about their products . We've still got the ambition of running a regular Minecraft session, but have not started planning this, especially as we have so many other ideas about Digital Friday that we would like to fit into the programme.

British Science Week..end!

I t might be Friday but there’s still plenty of time to celebrate British Science Week, with events and activities planned across the country this weekend. Guildford has a proud history as a hub of science and technology, with the world-class Research Park hosting some incredible pioneering companies.  These include the games company 22Cans  started by Peter Molyneux   - founder of Lionhead Studios, which went on to be bought by Microsoft and produce the popular Fable games. Surrey Satellite Technology , defence contractor  BAE systems , industrial gasses supplier BOC and mobile developer  Volantis  are other examples of the great mix of scientific minds that call Guildford home. Check out the official  British Science Week   events map  to see what’s on in your area, and use the hashtag #BSW17 to share the fun online!  Above: British Science Week events being held nearby
