Read, Watch, Play #artread 26 July

Read, Watch, Play is an online reading group and on the last Tuesday of each month a different theme is discussed.  The theme this month is  #artread and includes looking at art books for inspiration while painting your own masterpiece; reading a novel about art Notes from an exhibition by Patrick Gale; watching a film about an artist Woman in gold or playing an album which has cool artwork on its cover; it all encompasses Read, Watch, Play. Join us @SurreyLibraries on twitter for #rwpchat on Tuesday 26 July from 9am-11am and 2pm-4pm.  Use the tags #artread and #rwpchat as you tweet so that others can join in the conversation too.  You can follow the discussion on Twitter @ReadWatchPlay checkout Surrey Libraries Read, Watch, Play Pinterest board or our blog for ideas.  Or just read a book about this month's theme to join in. #rwpchat

Volunteer for the Summer Reading Challenge which starts on 16 July

This volunteering opportunity is part of our commitment to involving young people in library services, and is aimed at young people aged 14-25 years. The  Summer Reading Challenge runs during the summer holiday every year. It is a fun challenge for children aged 4 – 11 which aims to keep them reading throughout the school summer holiday. Children who sign up to the challenge receive small rewards and incentives as they read their way through the summer, and those that complete their challenge by reading six books are awarded a certificate. Children can read any books they like – fiction, non-fiction, poetry – the focus is very much on the enjoyment of reading. Last year, more than 17,000 Surrey children took part. It is a busy time for libraries, and staff very much appreciate the help provided by volunteers. As a volunteer, you will be: Enrolling children onto the Challenge Giving them their rewards and incentives Talking to them about the books they have read Helping with su
