Next Digital Friday Event

Our next Digital Friday event is a self-publishing session on 31 July 10:00 to 13:00 which will be held in the Seminar Room at Guildford Library. This event will give an overview of self publishing. The event will focus on eBook publishing. The aim of the morning is to give you some ideas of how to go forward and publish your book. There will be three guest speakers: Rachel Gregory who is the Ebook Programme Manager at Matador. She oversees the ebook creation and distribution processes, as well as the quality assurance procedure. We've found a local volunteer to run a Code Club, and we're just waiting for their DBS check to come through. Now we need to arrange the sessions, which will probably be late-afternoon drop-in sessions for children over the summer holidays. Image provided by Stuart Miles We are also looking at running lunchtime learning sessions, where our online resource suppliers could come in a talk about their products . We've still got the ambition of running a regular Minecraft session, but have not started planning this, especially as we have so many other ideas about Digital Friday that we would like to fit into the programme.

Digital Friday – what happened on Friday 26 June?

Last week was our first Digital Friday  , which went well. All six places were filled in the morning for the "Build your own website" session. Those people who filled in the evaluation said they would recommend it to a friend. There are 45 people on a waiting list for it, so we'll run it again. The evening session wasn't oversubscribed, but those attended it enjoyed the discussion about the Women's EqualityParty .

The library service is running a free workshop at Guildford Library on Friday 26 June, during which we'll help you to set up your own site, using Wordpress.   Unfortunately this event is now sold out.

Planned events Free evening discussion: Women's Equality Party: Novelty, or Movement?  Friday 26 June at Guildford library , 6pm for 6.30, finishes 7.30pm Over the past few years, the feminist movement has taken new life. There has been a succession of landmark issues such as Austengate, the number of local feminist groups has reportedly doubled in the last few years, and books like Caitlin Moran's " How to be a Woman " have built huge readerships. Come and watch a couple of TED (Technology, Entertainment and Design) talks, and then we'll talk about Sandi Toksvig's new Women's Equality Party , and its role in politics. Book a ticket online

Welcome to Digital Fridays

Surrey Libraries are running Digital Friday events starting on 26 June 2015 and will be held on the last Friday of every month at Guildford Library . Digital Friday is a programme of events which will take place on the last Friday of the month at Guildford library.  The aim is to establish the library service's reputation as making interesting digital things happen, to make contacts within relevant local organisations, and to build a list of people willing to act either as steering group members or as volunteers for a possible makerspace.
